I’m an Atlanta-based Creative Director, Graphic Designer, Writer, and Photographer. I’ve been passionate about photography since college, when I apprenticed in a regionally famous photography studio. I started offering photography services twenty years ago through my branding agency when I realized I could not deliver superior web and print design for my clients with stock photography. The cooking is only as good as the ingredients you start with, and stock photos to me are like starting with canned ingredients instead of fresh. I’ve always thought the posed, vague, plastic feeling of stock photos is the enemy of visual storytelling, so I approached photo assignments with a designer’s eye and a passion for capturing unposed situations that were highly specific to my client’s story. Mine is an unobtrusive, journalistic “fly on the wall” approach. The subjects often forget I’m even there, because I do not intrude or insert myself into the activities that are taking place. The resulting images feel like genuine moments, because they are.
I bring that same knowledge and passion to photgraphy, where I “design” my photos in the camera’s viewfinder, and later in post processing. Composition, light, color, and expression are maximized to convey a feeling and tell a story.
When I’m not shooting for clients, I still carry my camera with me everywhere and practice my craft on unsuspecting family members, birds and small animals.
